Why Are Kids Always Sick? (And What You Can Actually Do About It)

I hate jokes about germs.  They make me sick!

Kids collect Viruses like Pokémon: gotta catch ’em all

If you’re a parent, chances are… your kid is either sick right now, just getting over being sick.

But seriously — why do kids get sick so often and what can we do about it?

Short Answer: Their Immune Systems Are Still Learning

Also — let’s be honest — kids are kinda gross.

Sticky fingers, shared snacks, passed-around sippy cups, and a deeply concerning habit of licking… everything. From toys to windows to grocery carts — no surface is safe.

So, what can you do to help your little one build up some germ-fighting power?

5 Ways to Boost Your Child’s Immunity

1. Sleep Is Medicine

Kids need around 11–14 hours of sleep each day. That includes naps! A well-rested immune system is a strong one. So don’t skip the snoozes

2. Feed them Fruits and Veggies

Load up their plates with fruits and veggies: think oranges, berries, broccoli, and spinach. These are packed with vitamins A and C, plus antioxidants.  I know its easier said than done, especially with picky kids but try your best.  The key at the end of the day is to make it fun for them.

3. Get Them Moving

Regular activity helps keep the immune system in top shape. Even just 30 minutes of play a day — running, jumping, climbing — makes a difference. Bonus: it also burns off some of that never-ending energy.

4. Wash Those Hands (Properly!)

Teach them to wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds — singing the ABCs works great. A quick rinse won’t cut it. Proper handwashing is the single most effective way to cut down on those never-ending colds.

5. Try a Probiotic

The gut is a major player in immune health. Consider adding a probiotic — even something simple like a yogurt with live cultures can help balance good bacteria and support their defenses.

Bottom line?

Yes, it’s normal for kids to get sick often — but there are things you can do to help their immune system grow stronger. Sleep, good food, exercise, hygiene, and a healthy gut all go a long way.
